A few weeks back I was invited to a trends talk by Sunglass Hut in conjunction with the launch of London Fashion Week. Sunglass Hut had just been announced as one of the principal sponsors of LFW2015 so they were kicking off things with a #PunkItUpSA campaign. The trend talk was focused on Punk Avantgarde and founders of the DuoDesk Palesa and Krystal were the guest speakers.
On arrival at the Sunglass Hut Melrose Arch store we were greeted with a VIP experience. There was a giant red UK phone booth where we could get our makeup touched up by a Rimmel artist and a selection of mini burgers and chips to eat along with delicious milkshakes to slurp on.
The trend talk was focused on how to perfect the Punk Avantgarde look and you could tell straight away the Duo Desk ladies had done their research. The talk was divided into fashion, beauty, street style and demonstrations. The ladies had sourced a selection of clothing and of course sunglasses to show us how to style the perfect fashionable punk look. The important thing to know with the new punk look (Punk 2.0) is that it is edgy, a mash up, there are no rules. But having said that there are some key elements to include in your look to pull it off perfectly.
The ladies mentioned the following key elements:
- Studs / Eyelets
- Laser Cut
- Encrusted jewels
Please note do not wear all of this at once, take key elements and style from there. Oh and remember your sunglasses these add the cool factor. I have sourced some great images to give you a little inspiration.
Moving across to beauty the ladies touched on hair and makeup with the main idea of having fun.
- Plaits / Braids
- Faux mohawks
- Pixie cuts
- Dark lips like purple or a deep red
- Dark eyes (but keep a nude lip)
- Think fun make up bright even
After the talk we were told that inside our goodie bags was an R800 voucher and we could start shopping. Most of the girls went straight for Mui Mui a particular pair we had been discussing in the talk. Amazingly these glasses looked great on just about every person that tried them on. If you struggle for glasses I suggest this brand. I opted for a pair of Ray Bans (my favourite) and added a pair of ombre fade brown aviators to my collection.
All in all it was an informative and fun afternoon, thanks to the great hosts and of course Sunglass Hut.
